The Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score with C-Reactive Protein (ASDAS-CRP) is a clinical calculator used in the management of patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), a chronic inflammatory disease primarily affecting the axial skeleton. This scoring system is designed to assess disease activity in these patients, providing a quantitative measure that can guide therapeutic decisions and monitor treatment response.
The ASDAS-CRP incorporates patient-reported outcomes, including back pain, peripheral joint pain/swelling, duration of morning stiffness, and a global assessment of disease activity, along with the laboratory measure of C-reactive protein (CRP), an inflammatory biomarker. The score ranges from 0 to no upper limit, with higher scores indicating greater disease activity.
The ASDAS-CRP is specifically applicable to patients diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis. It is not suitable for use in patients with other forms of spondyloarthritis or in those with conditions that may significantly elevate CRP levels unrelated to AS, such as active infections or malignancies.
