The CholeS score, or Cholecystectomy Scoring System, is a clinical calculator used to predict the duration of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, a surgical procedure to remove the gallbladder. This scoring system is applicable to patients who are undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy, particularly those with gallstone disease.
The CholeS score is clinically useful in preoperative planning and resource allocation. It helps surgeons estimate the duration of the procedure, which can aid in scheduling and managing operating room resources. It can also assist in patient counseling regarding the expected length of the procedure.
The CholeS score is not applicable to patients undergoing open cholecystectomy or those with other types of gallbladder disease. It also may not be accurate in predicting the duration of surgery in complex cases or in patients with significant comorbidities.
