The Hirschsprung's Associated Enterocolitis (HAEC) Score is a clinical tool used to evaluate the likelihood of HAEC based on various symptoms and patient history. This calculator assesses 16 clinical indicators via yes/no responses.

Each indicator contributes to the total score based on its clinical significance. The scoring system assigns 2 points for significant symptoms such as explosive diarrhea, foul-smelling stools, the explosive discharge of gas and stool upon rectal examination, and a distended abdomen. Other symptoms contribute 1 point each: diarrhea with bloody stool, a history of enterocolitis, decreased peripheral perfusion, lethargy, fever, multiple air-fluid levels, dilated loops of bowel, sawtooth appearance with irregular mucosal lining, cutoff sign in the rectosigmoid region with no distal air, pneumatosis, leukocytosis, and a shift to the left.

The total calculation is straightforward. For each positive response (i.e., presence of a symptom), add the corresponding points from the predefined scores:

- Diarrhea with explosive stool: 2 points
- Diarrhea with foul-smelling stool: 2 points
- Diarrhea with bloody stool: 1 point
- History of enterocolitis: 1 point
- Explosive discharge of gas and stool on rectal examination: 2 points
- Distended abdomen: 2 points
- Decreased peripheral perfusion: 1 point
- Lethargy: 1 point
- Fever: 1 point
- Multiple air fluid levels: 1 point
- Dilated loops of bowel: 1 point
- Sawtooth appearance with irregular mucosal lining: 1 point
- Cutoff sign in rectosigmoid with absence of distal air: 1 point
- Pneumatosis: 1 point
- Leukocytosis: 1 point
- Shift to left: 1 point

A total score ranges from 0 to 20, assessing the severity of clinical symptoms related to HAEC.

Interpretation of the total score is as follows: 
- A score of 10 or higher indicates that the individual meets the criteria for HAEC. This suggests a high probability of the condition being present.
- A score below 10 suggests that the patient does not meet the criteria for HAEC, indicating a lower likelihood of the condition. 

This scoring helps guide clinical decisions, determining the next steps in patient management and the necessity of potential interventions for HAEC.
