Oropharyngeal cancer
What's new
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has published a focused guideline on transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for patients with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). TORS is recommended as a treatment option as part of comprehensive surgical management, including appropriate neck dissection, followed by adjuvant therapy for patients with T1-T2 HPV+ OSCC when there is a high likelihood of achieving R0 resection, such as in cases of lateralized OSCC. TORS may also be offered as part of curative-intent treatment for patients with T1-T2 HPV- OSCC. Potential contraindications to TORS include factors limiting exposure, such as a narrow mandibular arch, trismus, large mandibular tori, or neck range of motion limitations. .
